Day 7

Over a year of preparation and I'm still concerned about finishing the ride.  But today turned out pretty well.  Starting out through Golden Gate Park, and on to the first pit stop in South San Francisco, was rather pleasant.  There was quite a lineup at the porta potties at pit stop one.  I later came to realize that all the first pit stops were very crowded due to the effect of the morning coffee on the riders.  The next pit stop was at the Crystal Springs Reservoir  on Hwy 35, then the big climb of the day.   Out of the pit stop and onto Hwy 92 it was two miles of the first big hill on the ride and the biggest hill of the day.  Once at the top it was a wonderful 5 mile descent to Half Moon Bay and lunch.  The rest of the day was rolling hills along the coastline on the way to the first night in Santa Cruz.  Riding into town there was quite a greeting from locals lining the streets.  88 miles and somewhat less than 500 to go.  I felt pretty good, but the real test is going to be tomorrow.   In all my training I've only done single day rides.  Some of those rides were as much as 135 miles in a single day...but they were, indeed, only one day.  After a shower and a hearty dinner, its off to my tent and the first night.
