Today I was up at 4:00AM for a quick shower, then off to the opening ceremonies which began at 6:00am. This morning I had two bagels for breakfast, a pretty good carbohydrate for a start of the ride. The route took us from San Francisco, south to Daly City, then the start of a grueling climb with an elevation gain of over 2500 feet over 11 miles. Although is was the longest hill I have ever climbed, I feel pretty good. Once on the coast it was basically rolling hills all the way to Santa Cruz. After a 97 mile day, I think I'm ready for tomorrow's 104 miles.
